This Project consisted of building a new special needs school on a greenfield site, adjacent to existing Primary & Secondary Schools and a Leisure Centre.
The building was of predominately traditional construction, being blockwork with render, and a Welsh natural slate roof covering. Ground consolidation techniques, using vibropiling, had to be used to create suitable ground of adequate bearing capacity.
Specialised rooms including soft play and dark rooms, and staff support rooms such as Occupational Therapist and hygiene rooms were incorporated into the building. A specialist hydrotherapy pool was another specialist feature of this school, with changing room’s toilets and showers, served with air conditioning.
A greywater storage system was used, which harvested rainwater from the roof and utilised this to flush the toilets.
The project was built using high quality materials and colourful fixtures and finishes, which provided an exceptional educational establishment to the children and staff.
